EASC is set to expand Animal Management services to outstations of Groote Eylandt, as a result of a newly signed partnership with GEBIE (Groote Eylandt Bickerton Island Enterprise).
In a 'whole of island’ approach to animal health and protecting the unique biodiversity and species found on Groote Eylandt; GEBIE with the support of the Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC) has committed $200,000 over three years to supprt the recruitment of an EASC Animal Management Supervisor for Groote Eylandt.
The Animal Welfare Program aims to improve the health and wellbeing of companion animals and improve the overall health and wellbeing of remote Indigenous communities. Led by Veterinarian, Dr Emma Kennedy, the East Arnhem Shire Council Animal Health Program delivers a range of Vet & Animal Welfare services including education in all East Arnhem communities.
Dr Kennedy said, "This collaboration will ultimately achieve a more successful outcome for animal health and management across the whole island, not only EASC communities".
