'I ❤️ YIRRKALA' Festival announced

East Arnhem Regional Council, in conjunction with Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation, are excited to announce the inaugural ‘I ❤️Yirrkala’ festival will be held in Yirrkala on Saturday 23 June 2018.

Celebrating the pride, strength and culture of Yirrkala and it’s community members, the ‘I Love Yirrkala’ Festival will include a host of free events and music for the whole family.

The Festival logo was designed by 15yo Liyawulumu Yunupingu, whose winning artwork was selected by Councillors from over 100 entries by students from Yirrkala School, with some incredible designs received from kids in Transition through to Seniors.

Kicking off at midday, the Festival will include expo stands with giveaways and activities, face painting and tattoos, bubble soccer, and more, with the day coming to life when the Colour Run gun fires. Colour Run participants will receive their very own commemorative ‘I ❤️Yirrkala’ t-shirt and people of all ages are invited to come along and enjoy the fun!

Men’s and Women’s Gove AFL matches will follow before the Festival focus turns to the Roy Marika Stage at the Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre, when outstanding local and national artists will entertain the crowd into the night.

An exciting artists announcement will be released in the coming weeks and the run schedule the week of the event.

East Arnhem Regional Council President Banambi Wunungmurra is thrilled to be supporting this inaugural event.

“I’m extremely proud to announce the I ❤️Yirrkala festival. Yirrkala is my home and the birthplace of so many amazing individuals, and this festival gives us the chance to celebrate everything wonderful about our community.”

“We have a lot of pride and love for our community. This will be a special day for everyone to come together. We hope everyone will come to Yirrkala and join with us in celebrating the community that we love.”
