It is with deep remorse that East Arnhem Regional Council President, Councillors and staff pay tribute to Dr Geoffrey G Yunupingu, and extend our sympathies to his family.
Internationally renowned artist, Australian music icon, and former Yothu Yindi singer, Dr Yunupingu was an outstanding ambassador for Indigenous people and music.
His music transcended barriers of language, culture and distance, and continued to expose the rest of the world to the soulful sounds of East Arnhem Land.
While his gentle nature and love of music leaves a legacy that will be profoundly missed, he has continued to pave the way for the next generation to follow.
Rest in peace brother, friend and family member, a life lost too soon.
From President Banambi Wunungmurra, Councillors and Staff of East Arnhem Regional Council.
