After more than four and a half years in the top job, East Arnhem Shire Council inaugural Chief Executive Officer Mr Ian Bodill, has tendered his resignation.
President Banambi Wunungmurra paid tribute to Mr Bodill and his significant contribution to the East Arnhem Shire Council since joining in early 2008.
“It is with great hesitation that I have accepted Ian’s resignation”, said President Wunungmurra.
“Ian has worked tirelessly in bringing staff together following amalgamation and implemented changes to council’s operations that have benefitted the organisation and communities of East Arnhem Land.
“East Arnhem Shire Council is recognised as a progressive council within Northern Territory Local Government and this has been achieved under the vision of Ian.
“The council as a whole would like to thank Ian for his invaluable service and leadership, particularly during the early stages of a new council; firstly learning to crawl and now walk.
“We wish Ian every success with his future endeavours”, said President Wunungmurra.
Mr Bodill has enjoyed his time as Chief Executive and praised the dedication, commitment and professionalism of the Council and 300 strong shire workforce.
“It has been a blessing to work with aboriginal communities of East Arnhem Land” said Mr Bodill.
“You are only as good as the team around you, and I have had the absolute honour of working with not only a professional & dedicated workforce, but also a strong & stable council that has lead by example in the decision making process of council.
“I look forward to the new opportunities and challenges that lie ahead and wish everyone all the best,” he said.
Mr Bodill’s tenure has seen through the amalgamation of the community councils to the East Arnhem Shire as well as the implementation of the Northern Territory’s first stand alone Reconciliation Action Plan.
His resignation will allow Mr Bodill, who has spent a number of years working in Executive Local Government Management, to spend much valued time with his wife, plan for his daughters marriage and complete his second Masters degree.
Mr Bodill will leave the position on Friday 19 October 2012. Chief Financial & Operations Officer Mr Kerry Whiting has been appointed Acting CEO.
