Evelyna takes out Shorelands Group Indigenous Achievement Award

Congratulations to East Arnhem Shire Council Youth Worker, Evelyna Ganhutjpuy II Dhamarrandji, who has taken out the Shorelands Group Indigenous Achievement Award, at the 2013 NT Young Achiever Awards announced on Saturday in Darwin.

Evelyna was recognised for her contributions to broader community of Galiwin'ku Elcho Island, her leadership skills and cultural achievements. 

Evelyna is a well regarded Youth Leader among her peers, as well as Clan and Church Leaders, Elders and the Galiwin’ku community as a whole. In March 2012 Evelyna was largely involved in a consultation project for a 3 year strategic plan for youth, sport and recreation as well as consultation and development to form the first Galiwin’ku Youth Council.

Evelyna was nominated by her Clan Leaders to represent her own Clan for this first Youth Council. Evelyna has been a driving force in work towards developing the first Galiwin’ku Youth Council and it is a project that she has been keen to develop for many years.

Evelyna is passionate about improving life choices for young people in Galiwin’ku and would like to see more opportunities created for them.
