Clear your diary for Saturday 23 June, and join us in Yirrkala for the inaugural 'I ❤️YIRRKALA' Festival.
This FREE family event celebrates the pride, strength and culture of Yirrkala and it’s community members and will include a host of free events and activities, colour run and music extravaganza.
Presented by East Arnhem Regional Council and Rirritjingu Aboriginal Corporation, the Festival will start at midday, with expo stands with giveaways and activities, face painting and tattoos, bubble soccer, and more.
The day really comes to life when the Colour Run gun fires at 1pm. Colour Run participants will receive their very own free commemorative ‘I ❤️ Yirrkala 2018’ t-shirt and people of all ages are invited to come along and enjoy the fun!
Men’s and Women’s Gove AFL matches will follow before the Festival focus turns to the Roy Marika Stage at the Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre, when outstanding local and national artists will entertain the crowd into the night.
An exciting artists announcement will be released in the coming weeks so watch this space!
You're welcome to bring along your own chairs, mats and snacks, with food and drinks also available for purchase on the day. This is an alcohol free event.
The Festival logo was selected through a competition held with Yirrkala School students from Transition to Seniors. The winning design was selected by Councillors and we are happy to announce the overall winner was 15yo Liyawulumu Yunupingu. Liya will be presented with his prize during the Festival, as will each of the grade winners! Participate in the Colour Run and get commemorative shirt with Liya's winning design FREE!
