FOOTBALL IN RAMINGINING PAVING THE WAY FOR CHANGE

Ramingining was the place to be when the inaugural Ramingining East Arnhem Regional Council Football Competition wrapped up with an exciting day of finals!

For the first time in Ramingining's history, a Women's Competition was established, attracting over 80 women each week to the training track and four teams. The community with a population of just over 800, was greated by an incredible spectacle of an average 250 athletes on the oval each week, men and women training alongside each other, supported by children, parents and partners. School children spending hours creating banners and flags to support their team. This truly was a whole of community competition.

Saturday's Grand Finals saw Damala victors over the Hawks in the women's final and the Swans over the Tigers in the Men's. Importantly both games played in incredible sportmanship with phenomenal crowd support!

Re-established to provide an avenue for physical activity for the community, the competition also helped to put an emphasis on domestic violence awareness and education. Since the establishment of the competition the community has seen a dramatic fall in domestic violence occurances and a significant increase in reporting of such events. The correlation between the two is undeniable and we are proud to have been supported by the NT Police and NO MORE Campaign to push this messaging through the program.

The competition wouldn't have been possible without the generous support and sponsorship of the following stakeholders:

- NT Police - Outback Spirit - AFL NT - ALPA - Swinburne University of Technology - Ramingining School - NO MORE Campaign -
