Sober Up Shelter

Sobering Up Shelter (SUS) - Nhulunbuy

The council operates a Sobering-Up Shelter (SUS) in Nhulunbuy, which plays a vital role in supporting the Community Patrol team. The shelter assists clients who are intoxicated and pose a threat to the community or themselves.

The Sobering-Up Shelter follows a harm minimisation philosophy. This approach focuses on reducing the negative health, social, and economic consequences of drug and alcohol abuse. It aims to minimise harm to both the community and the individual, without necessarily eliminating substance use entirely.

Funding for the Sobering-Up Shelter is provided by the NT Department of Health.
